Wedmore 2nds (232 for 5) V Cheddar Cavaliers (194 for 6)
June 2nd 2012
Wedmore Won By 38 Runs
Wedmore entertained local rivals Cheddar & celebrated their win with a Jubilee party afterwards.
Captain Lloyd Patch confidently decided to bat on a typically flat Wedmore Wicket but may of been regretting his decision as Wedmore slumped to 40 for 4 off the first 12 overs despite Mark Harris (13) appearing to regain his form with a few lusty blows, Cheddar bowler D Packham (3 for 36) was responsible for the early strikes.
This brought youngsters Andy Patch (29) & younger brother Pip Patch (140NO) to the crease who gradually recovered Wedmores position & eventually dominated Cheddars bowlers with a 190 run partnership. Pip celebrated his hundred with a Royal wave with Andy providing solid support with Quick running and classic strokes. Eventually a tiring Andy was run out in the last over but Wedmore had posted a defendable total.
After an early breakthrough by Chris Major (2 for 38) following a sharp slip catch from Mark Harris Cheddar batsmen Hutchinson (70) & Humberstone (38) steadily built the innings keeping their team close to their required rate. With Wedmores other opening bowler Ian Harris bowling with little success it took the introduction of new spin twins Fraser Wall (1 for 39) & Josh Burgess (1 for 50) very ably backed up by paceman Ed Curtin (1 for 38) to stem the runs along with dismissing the inform Cheddar Batsmen with another Catch by Mark Harris & a run out following a direct hit by the mobile Chris Major.
Despite some big blows by Mike Edmonds (58NO) cheddar closed their innings 38 runs short to give Wedmore a deserved first win.
Royal Celebrations carried on through the night.
Next week Wedmore travel to Mark.
