Wedmore 2nds (147 All Out) V Sparkford 2nds (230 for 5)
May 26th 2012
Sparkford Won By 83 Runs
Wedmore travelled to Sparkford on a hot & sticky day but came unstuck by a devastating bowling spell by M Ogbourne.
With Wedmore's players praying that they won the toss to avoid fielding on such a hot afternoon were soon disappointed when captain Lloyd Patch beckoned them into the field.
Sparkford's openers batted confidently against bowling pair Marcus Lee (2 for 49) & Chris Major (0 for 50) with both batsmen reaching half centuries. The introduction of fitness instructor Bob Foster who bowled 12 fierce over's of wobble to prevent Sparkford from taking complete control especially with Marcus Lee dismissing both openers. With his ageing father watching on from third man Matt Harris showed his potential bowling his allotted over's. Lloyd Patch (3 for 62) disappointed with his form at tossing decided to bowl with aggression to pick up 3 wickets including a catch from youngster Pip Patch.
Throughout the heat & numerous drinks breaks credit goes to Wedmore's 10 fielders who restricted Sparkford to 230 for 5. Special mention for fielding displays from Majid Younis, Alex Charalambus, Chris Major & sprightly pensioner Andrew Patch.
After an excellent tea Wedmore's openers Lloyd Patch (21) & Marcus Lee (16) got the innings off to an excellent start. 3 quick wickets brought Mark Harris (14) & Pip Patch (60) together to provide a rapid 50 partnership to keep Wedmore in contention. When the tiring senior partner Mark Harris departed Andy Patch (14NO) joined his much younger brother to put Wedmore ahead of the rate. As Sparkford's tempers began to boil M Ogbourne reluctantly accepted the ball & Bowled Pip Patch with a straight one.
What followed was a once in a lifetime further 4 wickets to make 5 balls 5 wickets all bowled & leave Andy Patch stranded & Wedmore losing by 83 runs.
Wedmore celebrated Ogbournes achievement long after he left for home.
Next week Wedmore are home to Cheddar & expect an easy win!!
