Wedmore seconds V Wells seconds 19th May 2012

Wedmore 2nds (156 All Out) V Wells 2nds (157 for 6)
May 19th 2012
Wells Won By 4 Wickets

Wedmore's poor start continued with a last over loss to Wells.
Wedmore lost the toss & were inserted on a surprisingly dry wicket with a lush outfield of dandelions & daisies.
With the pollen count high Wedmore's top order wilted contributing 7 runs for the top four. With extras threatening to be Wedmore's top score the innings bloomed when youngsters Josh Burgess (17) & Pip Patch (83) rescued the innings with wise heads disguising their age. When Josh was eventually caught Marcus Lee (12No) ably supported Patch to continue the momentum. However with Patches dismissal Wedmore returned to type with the last 4 batsmen balancing the innings by contributing 7 runs between them including a hat trick for standout Wells bowler A Trevett who finished with figures of 7 for 20.
Lloyd Patch provided teas under the watchful eye of the food inspectors.
Wedmore openers Marcus Lee & Mark Lazenby (1 for 31) bowled with control but with little success as the Wells openers built their innings steadily.
Chris Major continued with the same control but still without a wicket to provide doubt for the Wells batsmen.
The introduction of pace man Josh Burgess (3 for 21) & a cameo appearance from Lloyd Patch (1 for 11) made the breakthrough with catches from Chris Major, Bob Foster & a superb effort from Asub. A further breakthrough by the returning Lazenby induced some panic into the Wells batsmen contributing to 2 run outs.
However with the light fading, the champions league & a new barrel of Lager beckoning Wells edged the winning runs with 4 balls & 4 wickets to spare.

Next week Wedmore travel to Sparkford.
